PUBLIC CONFIDENCE TOWARDS GOVERNMENT IN HANDLING ISSUES RELATED TO COVID-19

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 October 2020 - Findings from a survey conducted by UCSI Poll Research Centre indicated that there is confidence among the public towards Pakatan Nasional (PN) in handling issues related to COVID-19.

“The public’s confidence towards the government seems to be positive in the survey that was conducted, whereby from 1166 respondents, 63.3 per cent were extremely confident with the current government while 36.7 per cent said otherwise.

“We are still unsure whether this sentiment will maintain or lessen after a series of announcements made by the government in the past few days in regards to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work From Home (WFH) directive as well as the Movement Restriction Order,” said UCSI Poll Research Centre director, Associate Professor Dr Pek Chuen Khee in a statement today.

He added, the government should pay attention to this matter and needs to handle it accordingly, if needed.

According to Dr Pek, the same survey showed that a majority of the respondents agreed that a joint committee with the past government is needed to combat the pandemic.

“75.9 per cent of the respondents agreed while only 24.1 per cent said otherwise,” he said.
